Stumbleupon

Last week it was rumored that ebay was going to be paying a good amount of money for stumbleupon, and Om Malik offered a fairly compelling justification for why it was to desirable to the auction giant and several other web giants. The deal hasn't quite gone through yet, but you should still give the service a try.

It works something like this:
1. download the toolbar (or rather, install the firefox plugin -- which is less of a commitment).
2. Start stumbling, which means click a button and "stumble" into a well-regarded website.
3. If you like it, give it a thumbs up, if not, give it a thumbs down. That way the stumbles get better.
4. You can stumble across the whole web, or just photos or videos.

It's truly a lesson in serendipity, which after all is a lot of what we're looking for when we sit down at our computer, or in front of the TV. In fact, this "stumbling" looks a lot like what we do when we flip around the remote control in front of the TV.

Malik suggests that the product is a damn nice alternative to google search for the video format. Interesting.
