Our Nation's Top 15 Priorities

Are apparently listed in alphabetical order on the White House web site. How interesting. I for one would argue that this list is too long.

As a product manager, I spend almost all of my time making priority calls. I make sure everyone I work with knows exactly what is most important to the company. I let people know when they add to much to this priority list.

And outside of work, I like to challenge people to list their most important policy priorities-- usually trying to convince them that things like abortion and gay marriage *arent't* the most important issues facing the nation.

So, what are the most important issues you see facing the United States. Please comment! Here are mine:

1. Health Care - Lowering costs for consumers, employers and the government.
2. National Security - Largely, this is about addressing islamic extremism and fostering democracy and stability around the world.
3. Energy Policy - lowering America's consumption of energy imported from extremist countries, developing a new energy sector of the economy and, most important, addressing climate change.
4. Global competitiveness - making sure the American economy is diversified and invested in the skilled industries of the future. In part, this is a big investment in the right educational initiatives and university research.
5. Fiscal dicipline. How this country will pay for everything above.

I know this is incomplete. What's missing?

  2. Energy policy - we'll have to move the moon soon.
Health care- the system right now is eating up the weak and disenfranchised. I know...I work for one of the companies eating the people.
Domestic Security - let's try to figure our junk out first before we spread our democracy.

International Relations- can we try to not to act like the biggest assholes on the block?
