I know what you’re probably thinking: oh, another photo-sharing app. But the fact is that at least one of these apps is likely going to take off in a major way at some point soon. To some extent, Hipstamatic already has, but one of these is likely to get even bigger. “There’s no Flickr for mobile yet,” is how Systrom puts it.
To which I say, with some measure of exhasperation: why isn't the flickr for mobile, um, flickr?
Taking some responsibility as a former Flickr staffer, I acknowledge that Flickr isn't exactly delivering on this. Arguably, hipstamatic and others of this ilk (along with Facebook) are writing today's history of photosharing in a mobile/social world of cameras everywhere.
But were it given the permission by it's obviously distracted yahoo overseers, and were it so motivated, Flickr can (and should) still be writing the history taking photos and sharing them with your friends and the world as one of the definitive forms of expression.
100% Yahoo's fault. Every time we tried to launch a viable mobile strategy Yahoo squashed it.
