* The White House and Congress are at an impasse on emergency war spending. Why can't the President find a new capacity in himself to listen to outside views? Now is when we need him to do this.

* Attorney General Alberto Gonzales still needs to resign. But that won't stop Congress from demanding testimony from Rove and Meyers.
