Japanese Rally-car followers (like my friend Joseph) were excited to finally see a new Subaru WRX launched in New York last week. More than most car companies, Subaru has always had older powertrains, puzzling styling and baffling branding, so it is interesting to see how the company is launching this important all-new vehicle.
Subaru (now partially owned by Toyota and likely soon to be wholly owned by them), is relating the WRX much more closely to the Impreza line of small cars on which the WRX is based. So take note above, what was once a WRX is now an Impreza WRX. All the better to convince plain-vanilla Impreza drivers that they're getting something better than a Corolla and Civic.
I still don't think they've figured out styling at Subaru.
