As I have done in the past, I have consumed a lot of the written english language while traveling abroad this time. I'm reading "Lennin's Tomb," David Remnick's excellent summary of the end of the Soviet Union. It's a great read, and makes me want to pull out some old Orwell books.
I also brought along the equally heavy "From Beruit to Jerusalem," by Thomas Friedman. But I've decided that I don't like the way this guy writes long-form (his ideas are spot on, and his columns are a great length for his style, but his book's voice is very formulaic).
So I went off in search of a good english language book in Bariloche today. There is not a lot to choose from, mostly Allende, Toklien and other random stuff.
The second store I went to had a lot of Roald Dahl, including "Danny, the Champion of the World" and "The Fantastic Mr. Fox."
I love both of these books, but I didn't buy them. I read a bit about Mr. Fox, and will probably check up on him again later in the week.
A fine entry, Shanan.
