Way back in 1995, I interned at the then-under-the-radar Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
I mention this because I saw O'Brien, along with Andy Richter and Patton Oswalt on stage last night. Conan was getting a tribute from the SF Sketchfest. It was funny, and quite informal due to Oswalt's insistence that the conversation be driven by continuously refilled glasses of wine. O'Brien seems to be quite passionate about the internet-driven media revolution-- something that he seems to have focused on only since he left NBC. He also comes across as newly content and grounded-- making note that he wanted to be regarded in the industry like he hears Jack Benny was, as incredibly funny and also a hell of a nice guy.
I promise to post something here soon remembering my internship. I was struck last night by how long-ago that was, and how my vision for myself was so quite different than it is now. In an alternative universe I wonder if there's a talk-show hosting, comedy-improv doing Shanan Delp still prowling the streets of New York?
i like. did they let interns y'know..partake in all the fun?
