Just back from an awesome short trip to NY, I've been thinking about the things I miss most from my days living there ('97-2000).

Near the top of my list has to be WKCR, the student radio station at Columbia University. I listened to a lot of radio in my New York days, and there were two programs that stood out.

KCRW student news. So earnest, but most memorable was the theme song for the news. A totally rocking horn intro. What was that song? Tell me and I will be in your debt.

Bird Flight. The obsessive Charlie Parker anthology for obsessives, hosted by Phil Schapp. Recently profiled in the new yorker, always going into greater detail than you need, but so in love with Bird that you can't help but listen. It's still on the air every weekday.
