The media spends a lot of time covering the horse race, but we hear less and less about issues in our Presidential Campaigns. I guess they don't make for good television.
That's a shame, because the Nation has some really important stuff to make decisions about. Why don't we talk about the real choices the country faces in its energy policy instead of Barak Obama's lapel pin. Let's talk about how the nation is going to pay for the services promised to the waves of retiring baby boomers instead of Rudy Giuliani's electability in the bible belt.
I want to have presidential debates and coverage of these issues:
1. Health Care
2. National Security
3. Energy Policy
4. Global Competitiveness (or, the Economy)
5. Fiscal policy and income inequality
6. Education
I think that folks in San Francisco and Topeka can agree that these are important. I think we could even agree on a consensus way to work on most of these.
How can we make the election about these things? How can we make sure that we choose to best person to address these as President?
