It's looking like the Writers Guild of America members will go on strike next week.
The last time the WGA went on strike the old Late Night With David Letterman was off the air for weeks. Eventually the show returned without writers. It was pretty memorable to watch Letterman ad-lib a bunch of stuff -- effectively writing the show himself.
Best of all, the strike brought the world a segment called Hal Gurnee's Network Time Killers, named for the director of the broadcast. These segments usually featured carnival performers doing things like swallowing swords, or twirling hula hoops. Below a piano virtuoso eats up NBC network airtime....
