First Thoughts on India

I write this from my noisy hotel room in Gurgaon, which is an outer-ring city of New Delhi. It took forever to get here. First, you have to get up really early in the morning and stand in line. Then you sit on a flight for what seems like forever. And when you get off the plane you're only in New Jersey.

This is a picture of Russia, just south of Moscow.

And then you sit on the second plane for what seems like 12 hours. They tell you to keep your blinds closed, so that people can sleep. You take off at 8pm and don't arrive until 8pm the next day. Before you close your blinds, you see Yankee Stadium lit up for a night game, and you occasionally peek out at Quebec, Russia or Afghanistan. And then you're in India.

You see the thing that you expect to see. Traffic is chaotic, horns are honked, people and cows meander across superhighways, shantytowns lie alongside gleaming white condominiums.

These are truly my first impressions. I hope I'll have more to share as my week in Gurgaon goes on.
