The good folks at The Truth About Cars review the outgoing Volvo V70 R sportswagon. They address the inherent contradiction in a sported-up Volvo, most notably with this description of power
"In less technical terms, the V70R offers more mid-range overtaking power than you’ll ever need, exactly when you need it. And you can pin the Labradors to the rear window, blasting from zero to sixty in 5.6 seconds."
Someday I'd like to have one of these as a backup hauler, though Volvo has announced that the R models will be discontinued when their all-new wagons roll out this year. Perhaps I'll buy a used one.. or possibly Volvo will bring these back later in the model lifecycle.
The Truth About Cars also posts an editorial urging Volvo to drop all pretense for sportiness. As much as I disagree with them, I do realize I am in the minority here. They make a good point.
